I mean, think of the things you can discuss in fantasy on a completely new level than you can anywhere else OR things that take on new meanings in fantasy:
What does being alive mean? ok, this works for sci-fi too, but it's more interesting (I think) when undead or magical creatures are involved (read my story Shifter for more on this).
Good and evil. Of course, this is important to any genre. But evil is so much more fun when it's magic-wielding evil.
What is real and what isn't? Mm.. illusions. Tasty!

I will list more later. Right now I'm supposed to be writing a report on a non-fantasy book. This does, of course, make it much less interesting :( And for those of you who took/are taking English AP, it's Atonement. Bleh.

Yo. Firstly, summer assignments suck.
Secondly, I've been rereading old Harry Potters... Interesting notes that I'm thinkin about for no reason whatsoever...
Remus Lupin. It's obvious why she chose his last name as Lupin, but Remus... founder of Rome, suckled by a wolf. Probably obvious, but I think it's neat.
Sirius Black... changes into a dog and Sirius is the dog star. That's also probably clear, but it's still cool.
Sybil Trelawney... Sybil means prophetess.
Voldemort (who hasn't seen this one yet?) if broken into french components, becomes vol de mort. The flight (or theft) of death. Both of which work.
Well, that's all that's occurred to me thus far. Or at least right now. So... yeh, I've got things to do. Redesigning my werewolf for instance. Last name nagaur, similar to ngaur, tolkien elvish for werewolf... :) I'm weird.

Junior year officially sucks.
It is far too much work. And I've only got two AP classes. The rest aren't hard. I mean, here's my schedule:
Astronomy H
Latin 1 H
Independent Study (Novel Writing)/Free Period
3 English H
Symphony Orchestra
US History AP
AB Calculus AP
Gym H

Nothing out of the ordinary. Just my usual honors classes, two APs (and AB, not BC calc, mind you). And yet, it's a deviload of homwork. Currently, I've got a research paper for history, my junior research paper for English, my Latin quarter project... /And/ I've got to RE-write my history paper because it's not so good. Seven hours of my weekend down the drain.
I haven't had time to touch either of my instruments this week because I have been doing homework, and I've got a solo/ensemble festival this Thursday and I'm doing a solo gig down at a tea shop this saturday. For St. Paddy's, you know. But I'm not ready.
Frankly, I think that it should be illegal to dump this much work on people in one year. But the lawmakers don't care because they don't have to go through it. And things weren't this stupid when they were our ages. Also, college competition has risen like its prices, so you have to get straight A's in honors and AP courses to look good, otherwise you're run-of-the-mill like everyone else. I've gotten three B+'s so far *knock on wood*, in total; everything else has been higher. And yet there are 24 people doing /better/ than that. And there are really only two areas I've not taken the hardest level in- Orchestra (not Honors- no time, nor interest) and I opted out of chem-phys because I'm not a science lover. Though I wish I had, in retrospect.
Now, I am not a social person. I don't want hours to hang out with friends, or talk on the phone, or IM, or whatnot. I just want an hour in the evening to be able to write- 'cause I've got my book to do for the Indep. Study and a contest I need to write and edit something for by March 31. And even after that, I just want to write. Is that so wrong? But with our system, I don't have time to do anything like that. In fact, I should be working right now instead of ranting. But you know what? I need a break. Everyone needs a break. And the school people- and society- don't want to give it to us.
People are bastards.

Yo.
So... What's been up with me? Well, I did about 8 hours of DnD yesterday (!) but had to leave before (and if) we fought the beholder. So, either we didn't or we did and I died, 'cause I'd have to roll over a 15 to survive its eye rays. Ick. Yea, right. I'm waiting for news from the group.
And it's CHRISTMAS tomorrow! Some of the fun is taken away for be due to the fact that I know what I'm getting (I practically did my chrismas shopping)- about 7 DnD books including MMII, Fiend Folio, Tome and Blood, Song and Silence, etc. and a pound of dice (yay!). But hey! lalala, christmas is happy!
I've got 198 reviews of WoM and just posted two chapters, so it's all happy.
I think we're going to play DnD again on both Tuesday /and/ Friday! Major woot! :)

Hope you had a happy turkey day. I did, except that it was mostly mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce (mixed- it's the best) because that's what I crave every thanksgiving. Yummy stuff. And the cheesecake was good too.
What's new with me? Er... that's a good question. Well, I'm still trying to level up my players because they have to be fifth level to take on the next adventure. However, there was the little fact I didn't count on which was my character dying. Evil. I didn't read closely enough- I swear I did not know they had that poisoned dagger. Stupid thieves. Oh well. On the DnD bright side, I get to try out my drider this friday! Yay!
Did you know that my Ways of Magic story has been visted over five thouand times? 5000!!! YES!

Well, I started celtic harp lessons on Sunday. It's really fun! I like. Lots. It's really weird because in violin you start with the index finger and that's first finger, middle is second, ring third, and pinkie fourth. Harp: thumb first, index second, middle third, ring fourth, no pinkie. Strange. The hand position is weird to, but I suppose I'll get used to it eventually. Happy. Hehehehehehe.....
Well, I'm going to see Terry tonight to pick up a CD and an adventure or two, and then I'm going to get the harp I'm renting. So. Will go now.

Well, last night's session was certainly interesting. So, our party was in the vault we're trying to close up and three of our members (Melegost, Ceris, and Alex) just fell down a hole with a teleportation field. So, roughly what happened: the rest of us began to go down the hall. Something tried to trip me, but my Balance check was too high and I didn't fall. The someone darted back into hiding and tossed a rock at Denali's head. I used my shadowdancer's ability to hide in plain sight, much confusing the someone. Then he came out of hiding using controlled fall to land on his back and look like he was hurt. But Denali's sense motive check was higher than his bluff, so she put her sword to his throat and used intimidate (that went over well). At this point, I stopped hiding. Meanwhile, the three in the trap managed out using spider climb and rejoined us. Anyhow, the someone was a drow, who tried to convince us he was a) a leprechaun and b) had fallen into tar (hence the black skin). But then Alex drew the Star Heart (intelligent magic sword; I will mention at this point that I now possessed the rapier Black Canary, Denali had the Scimitar of the Hawk God, Aaron had Long Tooth, and Cameron had the Collar of Corrigan, all legendary items; Alex had the Star Heart and Kuni got the Katana of the Phoenix, both intelligent items. They have special properties, but save where necessary, I won't go into it.) and we discovered that the drow couldn't lie any more. He also gave us the name Mad Sweeney (sigh). Then, a bolt of lightning shot through the group; I made the reflex save (thank the GODS for +14s!) and took half-damage (16 hp) since I didn't have Evasion (ONE more level of shadowdancer, that's ALL I bloody needed!! grrr). Others were very damaged. Then we heard the sounds of a dragon approaching. It was a small blue one. I immediately healed Melegost, who had been knocked down to -11 hp by the bolt, then stepped into shadow (woot! I love being a shadowdancer). We fought it a bit; three people got stunned, Gruagh disappeared. We also learned during this time that Mad Sweeney had come in with a green hag, the mind flayer who we suspected was somewhere about (ie, we'd been attacked by mind magic once or twice; that did some nasty strength draining), and.. cringe... a beholder! THAT got some shrieks. I mean, that's CR13, and we are a SIXTH level group. That would mean DEATH. But anyhow. We haven't seen the beholder. Yet. But the drow is DEAD as soon as Agarel gets his hands on him... >:) So. I stepped out of shadow by popular demand and managed to fascinate the dragon. The next step WOULD have been to suggest to him to attack mind flayers and such. But... Then Gruagh came back with a strange mask, saying that the dragon's an illusion. We made will saves. Everyone save me and Melegost realized it was an illusion (I rolled a natural 1, yippee). So I was still trying to fascinate the thing. Then another lightning bolt came, and we realized that there was the green hag down the hallway with the trap. Kuni jumped it, hit green hag. Me and Melegost made new will saves to disbelieve the dragon; Melegost passed. I got... another natural one! DAMN THEM DAMN THEM DAMN THEM!!!!! grrr... stupid bard. ANYHOW. Then Melegost told me that the Rock said it was an illusion (it's a talking rock with legs, don't ask, you don't want to know), so Terry said I believed and he wouldn't make me make another will save. Thank goodness. So I summoned up a celestial badger for use against the green hag. At this point, it was also told that the Star Heart lets Alex cast the Bigby spell. So he called the interposing hand, putting it behind the hag and my badger so she couldn't retreat. Then Denali jumped the pit as well and killed the hag. She got the lighting wand the hag had had, while Aramil opened the bag and found the staff of... something. We're not sure yet, but it likes chaos and doesn't like trained spellcasters (ie wizards). It would love me; I'm true chaotic and a bard (not trained spellcaster). Mwehehehehe.
So, the beholder is still out there somewhere, I pray we don't meet it. But we've all got kickass items now (I LOVE the Black Canary; it lets my perform skill go up to a +20! Woot! Almost as good as my Hide of +22 in plain sight. Incidentally, the drow has +20 to Hide. I'm still better. Plus I can do it in plain sight, with nothing to hide behind. Cool.) I hope (think) we should have gotten quite a bit of XP, but Terry hasn't posted yet. I really want 7th level so I can get the bloody shadowdancer level! Evasion... purr.... plus darkvision and uncanny dodge (Dex to AC). Shadowdancer/bards RULE!
